Anne Phillips Architecture

Breland Senior Homes

Project: Affordable housing for Senior Citizens, co-developed by a local African-American church.

Location: San Pablo Ave., Berkeley, California

Design Approach: A narrow urban site necessitated creative use of a tight space. Design strategy was to provide generous south-facing windows for the majority of units, light from two sides for all units, a centralized courtyard focusing all community activities, and lively colors, materials and landscaping to create a nurturing environment.
